# What exactly is a qr code and how can i use it?

I want to know what is the purpose of a qr code, and how can I use it ?

A QR code, or Quick Response code, is a 2-dimensional barcode that stores information and can be scanned with a smartphone.

When scanned, the code connects the user to the information it contains. For example, the user can open a URL in their web browser, check in to a location, or unlock a special offer.

QR Codes can be utilized in various ways. Here are some popular use cases:

QR codes function similarly to barcodes, but their 2D pattern allows them to store more data.

While both can hold the same information, a barcode would need to be extremely long and impractical to match the storage capacity of a compact QR code.

This makes QR codes ideal for handling complex data like URLs, contact details, or Wi-Fi credentials, all within a small, scannable space.
